AC/DC in 2001; Paul Natkin/Getty ImagesSince 2018, unofficial reports and rumors have circulated regarding a new AC/DC album project, and now Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has apparently confirmed the news.
On his Twitter feed over the weekend, Snider wrote, “[A]ll four surviving members have reunited WITH tracks recorded by [late guitarist] Malcolm [Young] while he was still alive. Malcolm’s nephew Stevie Young is replacing him (he’s done this a couple of times before). It’s as close as you can get to the original band.”
Dee’s comment echoes an August 2018 item in JAM Magazine citing “a reliable source” close to AC/DC who reported that the band was preparing a new album using unreleased recordings featuring Malcolm dating from the early 2000s.
Snider also told one Twitter user that AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd both contributed to the project. When another fan commented, “If only there were enough tracks for a full album,” Dee responded, “What are you talking about[?] There are…I know.”
Yet another fan wondered how longtime singer Brian Johnson was doing with regard to the hearing issues that led to him being replaced in 2018 by Axl Rose during AC/DC’s latest tour. Snider responded, “Just saw Brian…he’s good.”
Rumors about a new AC/DC recording project first emerged emerged in August 2018, when photos were posted online showing Johnson, Rudd and Stevie Young at The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, Canada, where the group had recorded its last three studio albums.
In January 2019, the death-metal band Terrorizer claimed in a Facebook post that they ran into Johnson at an airport and asked him the rumors about him being on a new AC/DC album were true,” to which he said, “Yes,” and was “[s]ick of denying it.”
