Elton John has two songs on the Oscar shortlist for Best Original Song

Interscope RecordsThe shortlist of the 15 songs eligible for Oscar nominations in the Best Original Song category has been revealed, and Elton John has not one but two tunes in the running — “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman, and “Never Too Late” from The Lion King.

Elton wrote “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” with Bernie Taupin, and recorded it as a duet with Rocketman star Taron Egerton. The tune also has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Original Song — Motion Picture category. “Never Too Late” was co-written with Elton’s Lion King collaborator Tim Rice.

Among the other songs with a chance to score an Oscar nod “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” from Toy Story 4. The tune was written and performed by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and veteran film composer Randy Newman.
