Sarah Peterson, fifth-grade teacher at Sequoia Elementary School in Rincon Valley Union School District, has been named Sonoma County Teacher of the Month for January 2022. Miss Peterson received an impressive amount of nominations from students, parents, and colleagues. She was described as a bright, humorous, and engaging teacher who builds a personal connection with each of her students.
“This woman is absolutely incredible! Every day my child is engaged, happy, determined and striving to be the best version of herself because Miss Peterson inspires her. My daughter feels safe and accepted in her class due to the community her teacher has created for all students. There is no teacher more deserving of recognition than Miss P!!,” read one nomination.
Miss Peterson was surprised with the honor by representatives from SCOE and K-Hits 107.9/HOT 1017 on Friday, Feb. 18, during the school’s outdoor morning announcements. She and all of the students at Sequoia Elementary were elated by the unanticipated celebration. Miss Peterson accepted the recognition with jubilation and warmth. She let the representatives know how much she enjoys teaching fifth-grade. Miss Peterson was given a special plaque and a $500 gift card for teacher resources and supplies as part of the recognition.
